Inside the Zenon Boxing Cup 2: Competition, Community and the Growth of Boxing in Cyprus

Larnaca welcomed athletes, coaches and boxing clubs from across Europe this month as the Zenon Boxing Cup returned for its second edition, further establishing itself as one of Cyprus’s most significant international boxing events.

Organised by Giorgoudes Fight Club with Aravis International Boxing Hall, and supported by Exinity, the tournament ran from 19-21 June, bringing together competitors from official clubs across Europe. Over three days, athletes progressed through preliminaries, semi-finals and finals to a packed program of championship bouts.

The standard was notably high, with several competitors representing their national teams and arriving with international experience. For local fans, it was a rare chance to see high-calibre boxing on home soil — none more so than the Cyprus National Boxing Team, whose athletes met strong international opposition in contests that showcased both the progress of local boxing and the sport’s rising profile on the island.

But the significance of the Zenon Boxing Cup extends beyond the ring. Events of this scale give athletes valuable experience, strengthen ties between clubs, and promote international exchange — playing an important role in athlete development as boxing continues to grow in Cyprus.
