Extending a helping hand to the Unaccompanied Minors Asylum Seekers

The Andrey & Julia Dashin’s Foundation has recently taken the social initiative to help the refugee Unaccompanied Minors of Cyprus.

With more than 90,000 thousand unaccompanied minors among the refugees registered in the EU in 2016(Eurostat), European Union member states are facing an unsurmountable problem with great ethical and social implications. Currently in Cyprus and across the EU, minors are hosted by children’s shelters or youth guesthouses for their protection and care.

Τhe goal of the Andrey & Julia Dashin’s Foundation is to promote the aims of the children’s shelter Program and also to inform the public of the potentiality of hosting unaccompanied minors through the Foster Care programme also implemented by “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center. This programme is funded by the European Funds of the Ministry of Interior and the Republic of Cyprus.

Founder, Julia Dashina commented: ‘True kindness does not discriminate against colour, race, age or sex and/or social background. In most cases, unaccompanied minors come from countries that have been involved in war or other political, ethnic or religious conflicts. Approaching ‘Hope For Children’ CRC Policy Centre (HFC) and asking them what we can do to help with the operation of their children’s shelters and their newly launched Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Minors felt like our responsibility and one we gladly took on’.

In addition to this, the General Director of ‘Hope For Children” CRC Policy Centre ‘(HFC), Mr. Joseph Varughese stated that: ‘The benefits of participating in such a program are plenty. One can contribute to the upbringing of children belonging to vulnerable groups of the population but, most importantly, one can be actively involved in giving love and providing practical and effective assistance to children in need, making a meaningful impact in their lives’.
