Journey of Stories and Memories commemorating International Day of Older Persons
On October 5, our Foundation had the pleasure of celebrating the International Day of Older Persons in a most heartwarming way at the Geiorkeion Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Angela Chalkiopoulou, an innovative education expert and a mesmerizing storyteller, enlivened the event. She captivated the residents with a storytelling session based on the beautiful “How Many Meters Is Our World” by Sandy Antoniou. This crossover book takes us on a journey through the rich culture of Cyprus.
The story follows a little girl and a famous Cypriot painter on a heartwarming adventure as they search for the girl’s best friend, meet different people from a bygone era, and showcase the beauty and culture of Cyprus. It was a magnificent journey down memory lane, with an astonishing and touching ending that made everyone smile.
But the magic didn’t stop there! Angela’s class of young Terra Santa Elementary School students had prepared personalized cards with inspirational quotes for each resident. These thoughtful gestures accompanied an interactive session where the residents shared their cherished memories. It was a day of joy, reflection, and shifting the focus from sadness to positivity – truly touching the hearts of our elderly friends, many of whom rarely receive visitors.
We are proud to support the centre through such initiatives in collaboration with the fantastic family behind its management – Loulla Kassandra Potsou, her husband and father, who care for each resident as if they were their own family. Their unwavering dedication and boundless love inspire us all, and we remain committed to supporting them in their noble cause.
Let’s continue celebrating the beauty of storytelling, the power of memories, and the importance of caring for our elderly community.
