The Foundation sponsors ‘Novels from Russia’ play as part of the Russian Theater Seasons program in Cyprus

On the 3d of February, in Limassol’s Rialto Theater, Andrey and Julia Dashin’s Foundation – in collaboration with the Russian Cultural Centre (Rossotrudnichestvo) – sponsored the play ‘Novels from Russia’. It was presented by the Vladimir Academic Drama Theater as part of the international program ‘Russian Theater Seasons’ in Cyprus.

The play ‘Novels from Russia’ consists of two single-act performances:

-O. Gunina, ‘The Secrets of the Old House’ – a modern Russian dramaturgy, parallel to Chekhov’s classic ‘Three Sisters’.

-‘Give me a hand.  Here is the chest!’ – a monologue based on works by Vladimir Mayakovsky.

The Vladimir Academic Drama Theater is one of the oldest in Russia. It was founded in 1848. Many stars of the Russian theaters performed on its stage. While adhering to the traditions of Russian psychological theater throughout its history, the theater does not reject new theatrical trends, but seeks to integrate them in order to enrich its traditions with new ideas.

Noting the importance of developing Russian culture in Cyprus, Andrey Dashin made the following statement:

“As part of the ‘Russian Theater Seasons in Cyprus’, in the past we already have sponsored: ‘The Gamblers’, a classic play written by Nikolay Gogol; a children’s play ‘The Wizard of Oz’, performed by St. Petersburg A. Bryantsev Youth Theatre; and a concert of Tula Governor’s Philharmonic Wind Orchestra. ‘Novels from Russia’ is the latest play sponsored by the Foundation during this theater season. We hope that the audience enjoyed these plays based on great Russian classics, which engage readers in deep, personal reflection about life’s most important questions.”

The international project ‘Russian Theatre Seasons in Cyprus’ is implemented for a second year in a row by the Embassy of Russia and the Russian Cultural Centre in Cyprus, under the auspices of the President of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades.
